Aloha Tatou, The Vaka Taumako Project of Solomon Islands is preparing for a voyage from Taumako to Vanuatu in November, 2016. The aim of this voyage is to reunite the families who have been separated for over 70 years by a closed border.
Dr. Simon Salopuka, of Vaka Taumako Project – Solomon Islands, will submit this report to the SI government, offering recovery recommendations in the wake of Cylcone Pam.
Cyclone Pam has caused great destruction in Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands, including Temotu Province, where Vaka Taumako Project operates. We are currently raising funds to help islanders in Temotu with inevitable food and medical costs.
The Vaka Taumako Project’s Solomon Islands wing is now up and running. We are now officially registered as a charitable organization in the Solomon Islands as the Vaka Taumako Project of Solomon Islands (VTPSI), also known locally as “Valo Group.”
